Replacing slot auction mechanism, Polkadot launches Agile Coretime to improve network efficiency

Polkadot, a public chain, launched a mechanism called "Agile Coretime" on Thursday, which will introduce a flexible memory block space model and use a dynamic method of adjusting resource availability according to demand to replace traditional static auction systems.

The Polkadot network consists of multiple customizable Layer 1 networks (known as parachains) built on a foundation layer called a "Relay chain". Prior to this, the parallel chain team must first obtain a limited number of parallel chain slots through auctions in order to share the security of the Polkadot network and interact with other parallel chains, while slot auctions require locking in a large number of Polkadot native tokens DOT.

According to Polkadot's Chinese community PolkaWorld, Agile Coretime is a new parallel chain resource allocation mechanism that differs from slot auctions in that it allows projects to rent network computing resources, known as Coretime, through sales, simplifying the allocation process. This mechanism is more flexible and eliminates the problems of high costs and uncertainty in bidding.

This update is part of the Polkadot 2.0 series upgrade. According to Eskimor, the chief developer of Parity Technologies, a Polkadot memory blockchain infrastructure company, this new feature allows for more efficient use of network resources, reduces waste during low activity periods, and prevents overload during peak periods.

Agile Coretime is expected to lower the entry threshold for small-scale projects by reducing the large amount of collateral requirements required in the initial stage. The nuclear time can be purchased in large quantities or according to project requirements.
